Scott Burgess

Bio

With 22 years of experience, Mr. Burgess earned his Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Illinois State University; his Master of Arts degree in counseling psychology from Concordia University; a certification in Clinical Research Trials from the University of Chicago; and pursued a doctorate in education from Northern Illinois University. His is a licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC).

PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS:

Mr. Burgess has held memberships within the International Association of Psychosocial Rehabilitation Practitioners, National Association of Case Managers and the National Alliance for Mental Illness.

Expanding the use of evidence-based treatments; enhancing strategic alliances, community collaborations and partnerships; implementing integration and wellness strategies; strategic planning; expanding development efforts and financial resource enhancement; and increasing access to care.

SPECIAL INTERESTS:

Mr. Burgess is a proven clinician with experience working with children, adolescent and adult populations and is a highly recognized supervisor, manager and leader with knowledge of most facets of inpatient levels of care and community mental health. Passionate about effective policy for those struggling with mental illness, Burgess co-authored legislation that became law in Illinois to develop its first ever five year statewide mental health strategic plan (2013-2018). Recognized as a leader in mental health treatment, he was appointed as a member of the Governor’s Task Force to develop the state road map for improved care which was completed and approved in early 2013.

Mary Ann Guerra

With 25 years of experience, Mary Ann Guerra received her undergraduate degree from the University of Miami and graduated with honors in psychiatric mental health nursing in 1989, with a minor in psychology. She received her certification in psychiatric mental health nursing from the American Nurses Association in 1992 and also received Certification as a Crisis Intervention specialist and trainer in the same year. She has extensive experience in working with individuals with mental health diagnoses and/or substance use disorders and has had years of experience in the development of evidenced-based withdrawal management protocols. In addition, Ms Guerra has extensive knowledge and experience in the development of holistic and comprehensive residential and inpatient services, incorporating state- of -the- art assessment, treatment and intervention strategies.

With over 10 years of experience, Nancy holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Duke University where she graduated magna cum laude, and obtained her Master’s Degree in Counseling from Florida Gulf Coast University where she also graduated with honors. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), a Certified Master’s-level Addiction Professional (MCAP) and a Qualified Supervisor in the state of Florida. She was nominated for the statewide Direct Service Provider of the Year nomination in 2010 and also for Administrator/Supervisor of the Year in 2014.

INNOVATIVE TECHNIQUES:

Nancy believes in utilizing dynamic, innovative and holistic interventions combined with traditional evidence-based techniques to assist individuals in healing from addiction. Nancy has helped develop and expand Crossroads’ equine, pet and art therapies; yoga for sobriety; and wellness programs. She believes in combining mindfulness techniques and cognitive-behavioral interventions together with 12-step participation to empower clients towards life-changing wellness in recovery.

Nancy incorporates existential and humanistic techniques to create therapeutic relationships with clients to support them as they seek deeper meaning in their recovery.

With 14 years of experience, Maggie is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a master’s degree in mental health counseling from NOVA Southeastern University. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Smith College.
